Missouri Valley Conference Delays Start of Fall Sport Seasons

Add the Missouri Valley Conference to the list of conferences delaying the beginning of fall sport seasons.

The MVC announced Monday afternoon fall sports competition would be delayed until Sept. 18. Soccer and volleyball will play conference-only schedules. Winter sports, including basketball, weren’t impacted by the announcement.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference released a separate statement, saying “patience is warranted” before a decision is made.

“The Missouri Valley Football Conference Presidents Council has determined patience is warranted regarding any decision to modify the 2020 Fall season, seeing merit in delaying as long as there remains a possibility to provide a safe competitive opportunity for MVFC student-athletes,” the statement read.

In related football news, the Pioneer football league announced that if there’s a season, it would start Sept. 26 and teams would play a conference-only schedule.

The Valley is one of a growing number of conferences across the country to either delay or cancel fall sports seasons. Earlier today, the MAAC announced its decision to cancel fall sport competition, and the Big Ten is only allowing conference-only participation in the fall.
